Vicky Aperahama

Managing Director

Vicky is the Managing Director of Smart Training Limited and brings extensive experience in corporate training, having worked with some of New Zealand’s leading companies including Inghams Enterprises, Spotless Facility Services, Tegel NZ, Counties Manukau DHB, Millennium Hotels, and Doxcon Pharmaceuticals. She began her career in Private Training Establishments, delivering national qualifications in Business, Tourism, Computing, and Management to both youth and adult learners.

Vicky is known for her practical, learner-centered approach and her ability to adapt training to meet workplace needs. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (Human Resources) and is a qualified Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Educator, Master Practitioner in eLearning Design, and Workplace Assessor. Vicky lives in a small coastal town where she enjoys fishing and spending time with her family and friends.

Peter Aperahama

Operations Manager

Peter began his career with the New Zealand Police Force in Auckland, where he developed strong foundations in leadership and community service. In the 1990s, he moved with his family to the Bay of Plenty, where his interest in training and development began. He went on to spend 19 years in the forestry industry before returning to Auckland six years ago, continuing his focus on operations, health, safety, and compliance.

Peter is a Registered Workplace Assessor with expertise in the Manufacturing, Forestry, and Construction sectors. He’s known for his calm, practical approach and strong ability to connect with learners in hands-on environments.

Now living in the country with his partner Carol, Peter enjoys the quiet life and spending time with his whānau. Between them, they have 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who keep them both busy and proud.

Michelle Cummings

Training Coordinator

Michelle brings over 15 years of experience in the training and education sector, with a strong track record of supporting individuals to achieve their goals in both academic and workplace settings. For more than a decade, she has worked closely with Vicky across a variety of roles and organisations, forming a trusted and dynamic professional partnership. Their collaboration is grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a deep-rooted passion for learner success.

Throughout her career, Michelle has demonstrated a proven ability to connect with learners from all walks of life, tailoring her approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Her approachable manner, real-world insights, and dedication to fostering growth make her a valued mentor and trainer.

Outside of work, Michelle finds joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loves spending time in her garden, taking long walks, and exploring new places whenever she gets the chance. Most of all, she loves spending time with her son and daughter.
